Jointech® Composite

A patented composite expansion joint system for bridges and concrete structures

Jointech® Composite is an innovative patented expansion joint system engineered to accommodate movements in bridges, parking structures and other concrete applications. The system combines a robust elastomeric profile with a unique guidance system comprising composite sleeves with internally tapered bores and solid GFRP support rods, allowing controlled longitudinal, transverse, angular and vertical movements.

The joint system is installed in a prepared recess (block-out) and has a built-in waterproofing membrane.

Typical Installation Sequence

  1. Position the joint assembly
Place the expansion joint assembly in the prepared block-out. The levelling screws shall bear against the existing concrete substrate.
  2. Adjust the elevation
Adjust the levelling screws until the joint is positioned at the specified elevation and aligned with the finished road or deck surface.
  3. Drill the anchor holes
Using the pre-drilled holes in the GFRP angle profiles as templates, drill Ø12 mm (0.47 in) anchor holes into the existing concrete substrate.
  4. Install the threaded rods
Install M10 threaded rods using Sika AnchorFix®-1, or an equivalent approved anchoring adhesive. Hole depth, cleaning procedure, embedment depth and installation method shall comply with the structural design and the current product data sheet.
  5. Allow the anchoring adhesive to cure
Do not load or adjust the threaded rods until the anchoring adhesive has reached the required curing time for the prevailing substrate and ambient temperatures.
  6. Verify the final position
Check that the joint is correctly aligned, levelled and positioned flush with the finished road or deck surface. Confirm that the joint follows the specified crossfall and longitudinal gradient of the roadway.
  7. Secure the joint assembly
Fit and tighten the remaining nuts on the threaded rods. The joint assembly is now secured in its horizontal and vertical position.
  8. Pre-treat the grout-contact surfaces
All surfaces that will come into contact with the grout shall be prepared in accordance with the specified installation procedure. Where an epoxy bonding layer is used, quartz sand shall be broadcast onto the uncured epoxy to provide a suitable mechanical key.
  9. Grout beneath the joint
Completely fill the space beneath and around the joint assembly using SikaGrout®-800, or an equivalent approved shrinkage-compensated cementitious grout. Ensure that the grout fully encapsulates the supporting surfaces without leaving air pockets or voids.
  10. Allow the grout to cure
Protect the freshly placed grout and allow it to cure for the period specified in the current product data sheet, taking account of the prevailing temperature and site conditions.
  11. Complete the block-out infill
Following the required curing period, complete the remaining block-out infill with SikaGrout®-800 or the specified approved material.

Important: Installation shall be carried out by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with the project-specific drawings, structural calculations and the current product data sheets for all materials used.
